This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for June 09, 2007:
For several years I've considered the ego a dastardly entity; one solely capable of stimulating sorrow and pain. Recently I've been contemplating the ego and have concluded that while the ego starts as something destructive to things Other than it's self, it needn't always be. The ego isn't something to be 'killed' or done away with, in fact this may not be possible as the ego is the sensing entity, it's the 'I', and it's something to be transformed. The main objective of the ego is to transcend what it once was. It's when this is resisted that sorrow and pain arise. So Love yourself and grow unceasingly and joy will be found!!

excellent point Steven, I do have found that transformation of the ego is difficult yet very rewarding to all of us. When we step outside of our normal reactive scripts and attend to that which is around us with humility and care, things work better and the universe is a better place. Simple things like smiling at the person coming toward you, overlooking a mistake, finding forgiveness, and even giving more of oneself (yikes) are steps on this journey of ego transformation.
